Catch up! Monday, Sept.29th

Sorry for my lack of posts -- hoping that my children stay healthy and I'm not out this week:)

Folder assignments from last week: Battle of the Northeast questions

Today: Introduced the historical re-enactment we will be doing detailing the Acadian Expulsion. Passed out information organizers (worth marks) to be filled out during the video (links are below). Students also complete a History Frame Story Mapping folder assignment on the Expulsion (hand-out).

Students were put in groups and we began to share our findings to create a master information organizer to be used to create a script for our re-enactments.

Tomorrow we will be working in our groups again and collaborating to create our scripts!

Debriefing Questions for Map Assignment

Here are the debriefing questions for your map assignment, if you didn't have time to complete them in class today (assignment is due tomorrow).


1.Looking at your map, what do you notice about the location of the settlements? Why did settlers chose to live in these areas? Why not in other areas? Explain.
2.Create a list of site and situation factors that would have influenced settlement patterns on the Island. Which factor would have been the most prominent or influential? Why?
3.Compare your two maps. What are the differences/similarities? Were you surprised by the actual settlement locations? Why or why not?

Thursday, Sept. 18th

Worked on Settlement Patterns Map assignment (due tomorrow -- with debriefing questions).

 After watching the video, please respond to the following questions:


1.What was your impression of the segment on The Amazing Race Canada, featuring Prince Edward Island? Do you feel like it highlighted the best aspects of our Island culture? Explain using examples to support your answer.


2.If you were given the responsibility of highlighting aspects of our Island culture for The Amazing Race Canada, what activities would you have organized (please give examples).


3.Given that tourism is one of our main industries, do you feel that having The Amazing Race Canada was a good investment for our province, or was it a waste of money? Please defend your opinion.
